To provide information in different parts of Turkey, efforts to establish EU Information Centers network were started by EU Delegation to Turkey in collaboration with hosting organizations in 1995.

Within this framework, in 1996, İzmir EU Information Center which is one of the first EU information centers was established in İzmir by EU Delegation to Turkey in collaboration with ESİAD and initiated its actions. Through its successful works about European Union, the Information Center has been running and coordinating numerous European Union Projects not only in İzmir, but also in the whole Egean Region and around Turkey for more than ten years.

Currently, Information Centers in 21 cities throughout Turkey keep working.

Cities which have EU Information Centers are:

İzmir, Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Erzurum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İstanbul, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Mersin, Samsun, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon, Van.

Duties of EU Information Centers

-          Answering the questions of public and private sector institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, universities, media and different parts of people about the European Union

-          Ensuring public access to various databases of the European Union

-          Contributing to expand the network among European Union information sources

-          Serving as a reference point for people by advising on how and from where the information can be obtained

-          Organizing seminars on European Union-Turkey relations and on European Union policies with the attendance of expert speakers

-          Distributing European Union Publications to the relevant parts of the public

-          Organizing cultural activities
